Jeffrey L. Luther was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Alabama where he was active in student government and served as the Student Representative on the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees. Jeff obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in History and a minor in English in 1982.
Following graduation, Jeff worked full time on an Alabama Gubernatorial Campaign and then returned to the University of Alabama to obtain a Masters Degree in Public Administration. Following completion of graduate school in 1984, Jeff managed a successful re-election campaign for the Mayor of the City of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Jeff then enrolled at the University of Alabama School of Law.
While in law school, Jeff again served as the Student Representative on the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees and was selected as a member of the law school’s trial team, which went on to reach second place in the National Finals. Jeff also served as an intern for U. S. District Court Judge Clarence Allgood.
Upon being admitted to the Bar in 1988, Jeff joined a state-wide law firm with offices in Mobile, Alabama. Jeff formed his own firm in the beginning of 1995 and has maintained a private practice in Mobile since that time.
Jeff has served as President of the Young Lawyers section of the Mobile Bar, and has served on numerous local Bar committees, as well as, a member of the Board of Editors of the Alabama Lawyer. In 2007, after serving as lead counsel in over sixty jury trials to reach verdict, Jeff was selected as a Charter Fellow of The Litigation Counsel of America.
Jeff has been lead defense counsel in numerous, complex cases which have resulted in defense verdicts, as well as, multimillion dollar verdicts and settlements over the course of his career. Jeff’s areas of practice include construction law, personal injury, product liability and professional liability.
Jeff is married to the former Cara Coker of Mobile, and they have two daughters, Townsley and Cara Louise. They are members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Jeff is a member of the Mobile Rotary Club. When Jeff is not busy with his practice, he likes to enjoy the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and golf, and attending his childrens’ sports activities.
In 2007, Jeff was selected as a Charter Fellow of The Litigation Counsel of America. He is an active member in the Mobile Bar Association, as well as, The Alabama State Bar, The Alabama Defense Lawyers Association and The Defense Research Institute. Jeff is also a member of The Trucking Industry Defense Association.
Jeff has been a member of The Alabama State Bar since 1988, the U.S. District Court for the South District of Alabama since 1988, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit since 1989, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama since 1991, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama since 1996, and a member of the Supreme Court of the United States of America since 1991.
